Elysia chlorotica

Project type

Power points electron micrographs photomicrographs

Elysia chlorotica project marks a significant breakthrough in the study of the endosymbiotic relationship between the sea slug and algae Vaucheria litorea. Through electron microscopy, the project provides a deeper understanding of the evolution of tissues on a molecular level, shedding light on the development of tissues and organs through evolutionary similarities. This research project offers critical insights into the biological and molecular mechanisms underlying this unique symbiotic relationship.
Using is cousin, Elysia crispata, together we showcases the fascinating ultrastructure and kleptoplasty. The organization of the different tissue layers and extracellular matrix highlights its cell plasticity, which we recreate in our own product.
